Pre Production Unit: 1st thought

I am really excited about the pre production unit as I believe it is in any production that my strongest skills are in pre production. I was really struggling for an idea when it came to pre production but then finally it all clicked in to place.

I am really interested in kids television especially the channel CBBC. So I thought why not create something for that channel. The most popular time for kids to be watching that channel is at half term or in the summer holidays when they will all be off school. One of the highest rating program types for this channel are films as they are advertised so much before. So this is what I have decided to do.

I began by thinking about my favourite children's author Jacqueline Wilson and the type of stories she writes about. One of her most famous books The Story Of Tracey Beaker has has its own show plus 2 spin off programs all on BBC 1 and CBBC.

-Tracey Beaker Returns
-The Dumping Ground

It also has a film that is aired frequently during half terms, 'Tracey Beaker: The Movie Of Me.'

One of Jaquiline Wilsons books that had always been on of my favourite is 'The Suitcase Kid.' This book is about a 10 year old girl, Andy, whose parents split and she is made to chose who to live with. She can not choose so lives with each parent alternative weeks therefore being labelled 'The Suitcase Kid.' This story always stuck in my mind as a child as my parents broke up when I was that age so I realted to the girl in the story.

I will adapt this short novel into a screenplay as an 1 hour long film. I will keep the basic story the same, but changing some events and characters.
