Dissertation Unit: 1st ideas

So I came to Chris with little idea of what I wanted to do for my dissertation. The only I came to him were:

-Violence in the media
-Sex and Violence make the best news
-Does the medias hype of violence control how the public feel about violence?
-Snuff films and how they came about
-My interest in Sociology

With these ideas Chris managed to give me a very clear insight of what I could do with all this and we even came up with a working title. 

My working title so far is:

Fact or Fiction; Why are audiences fascinated with watching death and destruction?

Chris also gave me a lot to think about regarding theories and case studies that I found very helpful. With my interest in Sociology we decided a good route to take would be the theory of 'Hyper Reality' and the post modernist view of violence. This is where I am going to begin my research as I think it is a good place to start. 

He also told me of some great case studies that will be able to help with my research. I have already chosen the film 'Peeping Tom' (1960) to use as one of my case studies as it is very relevant. 

'Peeping Tom' is not itself a snuff movie but based on the genre of snuff movies.
