As live unit: Gig guide Research

As it is not possible to think about 2 of the VTs without the bands being chosen yet we have decided to start researching the one that can be researched. The VT we are researching is about the music scene in Maidstone. These are some venues I have researched:

Drakes

9 Fair Meadow,

  • Award winning spirit selection
  • Regular live music
  • Large secluded beer garden
  • Free WiFi
  • Open from 12pm to late
  • For more info find 'DrakesPub' on Facebook

Drakes has been a welcoming "bolt-hole" for office workers seeking relief from their desks at lunch and early evening and yet, as it heads into the weekend and the DJ ups the beat with some fantastic tunes, the local student community feel that Drakes is their venue on Friday and Saturday night.

  • Comedy shows, Family shows, variety and Live music performances
  • Seats 382 people
  • Dressing rooms avaliable
  • Refreshments and Bar
  • Mainly tribute bands and Sing a long performances

Pizza Express

32 Earl street
Maidstone
Kent
ME14 1PF

Sounds like an unlikely place for a gig but Pizza Express has many bands and solo artists, once a month performing there. Its early 19th century building makes it a beautiful venue for local artists. Pizza express welcomes any interested artists.
  • 5 floors
  • Private function rooms to hire
  • Seat between 40-60 people

The Flowerpot

Sandling Road
Maidstone

  • Walk away from Maidstone's town centre
  • Live music on a Sunday
  • Open mic night on Tuesday evenings

The White Horse
  • Live music most friday and saturday nights
  • Open mic night every sunday evening
  • Pub garden

Earls

Earl Street, Maidstone

  • Roof top garden
  • Pool tables
  • Function room for hire
  • Live bands on a thursday, friday, saturday and sunday.

Hazlitt theatre

Kent, United Kingdom

Although they are often found to be sharing Drakes with the office crowd that hasn't quite made it home on time! As for Sunday; we love it! Sit back and chill with our resident music buddies who just play a bunch of stuff that makes you want to sit, close your eyes and sip a bit more of your chosen liquid refreshment.

  1. As per Abbi's feedback, when you have a list of likely suspects begin to arrange visiting them and work out which is the best option. Find out if in principle filming is possible! If so find out dates/days best to do filming. Liaise with production team re: presenter and options for your gig guide - present the options. Well done

  2. At Pizza Express we have 'The Soundcasters' playing there April 19th, we've booked them in for the live show and are available to possibly be in a VT. It might be possible to film inside them playing, but I think Pizza Express have been strict on filming in the past. But, I know the organiser and the sound guys so I know they'd be okay with it. Here's the event: http://www.paulduntonandguests.com/event/2012/04/19
