Guest Lecturer

Today we met our lecturer for the week. Kim Brooke is a Director/Producer who has a variety of different credits to her name. These include, Pets and People and Bargain Hunt.

These are a few points that really stuck in my mind about what she told us:

Getting a good job in the media industry is all about:

  • Who you know
  • Timings
  • Luck
  • Getting on with the people you work with
Places to look when finding a story for a TV magazine show:
  • Radio
  • TV
  • Newspaper
  • Internet
  • Personal agenda
  • People trying to sell something/Marketing
These are the quickest way to find stories as someones has already done all the work by writing the story.

They all need a hook this could be the:
  • Shortest
  • Longest
  • Biggest
  • Smallest
  • Most
  • Only
  • First
In the afternoon we split off into groups to find some stories to make not only a program but a whole series. Dean and I were to find hard stories. This is what we came up with:
  • Facebook hoax: coupe were bullied as 'troll' said they had missing April Todd in their house.'
  • Cruel couple face jail over dog trapped in own hair.
  • Melting Planet
  • Diabetes treatment is a postcode 'lottery.'
  • Burglary hotspts revealed
  • Police gagets to take info off mobile phones.
