Fiction Adaptation unit: idea development

At first I wanted the style of the film a very dark and gothic look, but thinking more and more about the poem and understanding it more I have deceided that this is not the best idea. The main theme of this poem is love. As the poem says, ' What will survive of us is love,' this is an inspiring message so I think that it should be portrayed in an uplifiting and inspirational way.
I watched a film recently that I have been really inspired by, Its callled 'Life in a Day,' by Ridley Scott. This film is made up of different bits of video clips and follows the stories of people from all around the world on one specific day. It also has a section in where lots of different people are asked the same question and it was really interesting to see all of their different answers.

I would love to be able to do something like this. I was thinking maybe a montage of footage of different age couples and differnt types of love eg man and his dog. Maybe include peoples concept of love, asking the question, 'What does love meant to you.?'

I also came up with a really good idea for the opening of my film. To have a news reporter announcing the death of this couple, but have it as if the couple are modern day celebrities and they died in a car crash. This is the sort of thing I am thinking of.

I'd like to have the background as a picture of them and then maybe a picture of the car wreckage. Along the bottom where the writing is, I would like to have the first line of the poem or get the new reader to include the poem lines in his announcement.

Another of my idea is to have the woman of the couple to be present on screen as a young bride, all dressed up as if it were her wedding day. I am hoping to film at Arundel cathedral so would film the young bride at the tomb remembering her life.

  1. Some fantastic ideas here - I loved the doc 'Life in a day'. Try to explore how you could use this device for your film - maybe make the footage look like it's home movie/amateur?
