Direction Unit: Workshop

Today was our first real introduction into the world of directing. I thought the mornings lecture was really interestng as I am really interested in this side of the industry. I learnt alot about actually how much a director is involved in pre production, production and post production, which is alot! It was also really interesting to find out that you cannot work your way up to become a director you just become one. This lecture made me realise I need to look into more directors and their work as I only really know the famous ones. It would be good for me to research some tv directors too.
One of my favourite directors is Alfred Hitchcock. He is a genius in suspense and physcological thrillers. I really like how he forces viewers to engage voyeurismand how many of his films have twist at the end that you really would never imagine would even happen.
In the afternoon, our workshop was to work in a group of 5 and to each take turns to have the role of director. I really liked doing this and deffinatly would consider doing it in the future. I liked how I was able to get my vision accross without having to do the camera work as that is the area that usually prevents my ideas coming accross to the audience clearly. I was really pleased with some of my shots the crew managed to achieve with my direction.
Today has made me really look forward to this unit and I am now going to research my chosen drama!
